On the invitation of the President of the Republic Milan Kucan, the
Ninth Meeting of the Presidents of Central European States will take
place in Slovenia from 31 May to 1 June. All the Central European
presidents have confirmed their participation at the meeting. The
majority of the presidents from the states in the wider central
European area have also said they will attend, in response to the
invitation extended to them at last year's meeting.
The ninth meeting, the largest and most important event of its kind
ever to take place in Slovenia, will be attended by the presidents of
16 countries: Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the
Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldova, Poland,
Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine, Yugoslavia and Slovenia.
The meeting will commence on the morning of Friday 31 May with the
arrival of the presidents at Ljubljana airport. The President of the
Republic Milan Kucan will receive the guests at Hotel Toplice in
Bled. The main part of the meeting will be the session to be held
at Brdo pri Kranju, where the presidents will focus on the role of
Central Europe in an integrating Europe and the achievements of the
transformation process in Central European states. The first day of
the meeting will end with a ceremonial dinner at Hotel Toplice in
Bled.
The second day will begin with the gathering of the presidents at
the unveiling ceremony of a fountain at the Bled municipal
offices. The fountain will be in commemoration of the ninth
meeting of the presidents of Central European states. The presidents
will then visit Bled castle. Following the final conclusions of
the presidents' meeting a press conference will be held at Brdo
pri Kranju for foreign and Slovene journalists. The meeting of the
presidents of Central European states will end with an official lunch
and accompanying programme.
During the two-day meeting of the presidents of Central European
states at Brdo and Bled, events will take place in honour of the
presidents (including official openings) that will remain after the
meeting in commemoration of this prestigious meeting.
